so with all the issues that have been plaguing us with the a340e. i started throwing around the V160 idea. we both kind of agreed we don't want to do a R154.

So, with that being said what kind of stuff would i need? Odviously a used v160/V161 trans.

Does the V160/V161 require a shifter extension still like the R154?
I would need a a Nissan clutch pedal and a master cylider (or should i look into a supra one?)
Also when buying a used v160 does it usually come with the clutch fork stuff/slave cylinder?
I'm also assuming i will need a new drive shaft, and can the stock auto aristo ecu react just fine to the 6speed in the car?

Why not a R154? The trans mount bracket is easier to modify for the R154 vs the V160... the V160 bracket is completely different. The ECU will work fine. Typically you don't get the clutch unless the seller throws it in. You don't need an ext for the V160. Other than the fact the V160 will run you 3x-5x more than a R154 setup, I could only see it being a bragging right. That and the differential in the 240 will need to be regeared to work properly with the V160, or just get use to the short gearing. The V160 uses 3.23 final gears.

The R154 has one weak spot, the 1st gear thrust washer. Now since this trans is found behind the 7M-GTE and the 1JZ-GTE it doesn't see light duty use by typical drivers. When people buy these trans used they have an expectation that they will be bullet proof. Often they have been abused and raced where the 1st gear washer is worn out. Its a very cheap part, and easy to replace. I have never broke a R154 from missuse or abuse when the 1st gear thrust washer has been replaced (either with OEM or upgraded like the Marlin Crawler which I reccomend) You can also get the bearing retainer but is over kill if you are not pushing 600whp.

For the cost and who will be driving this car, the R154 will hold anything you throw at it. If you want peace of mind, replace the 1st gear thrust washer and put in some good gear oil, you won't have problems with the trans. Just don't skimp out and buy one for too cheap, 9x out of 10 they are busted are about to break. And just because it goes through the gears doesn't mean its a good trans. Other things come into play, which I can walk you through if you want to shop for any used manual trans.

My 154 is at the shop right now getting the billet 1-2 shift fork, MC thrust washer and the bearing retainer. He is also doing a full inspection and new syncros for 400. I thought that was a deal. They came highly recommended here in Oklahoma. All the parts were purchased seperatly and not included in that price.
